The Amazon Books at the Legacy Place shopping center in Dedham is the e-commerce giant’s fourth physical store. The other three are in California, Washington and Oregon.
The Dedham store is 5,800 square feet and will employ approximately 20 people. While it may seem counterintuitive for a pioneer of online retail to go back to brick and mortar, Amazon frames the stores as an extension of its digital presence.
Another Amazon bookstore is in the works for MarketStreet in Lynnfield, an open-air retail complex near Route 128. Amazon is also planning bookstores in Paramus, New Jersey, Columbus Circle in New York City and at a retail complex in Chicago.
